Position title
Advanced micro- and nano-mechanical data analysis in battery materials
Description

DigiCell is a European large collaborative research project that aims to revolutionise the battery value chain by transforming the manufacturing and testing processes of battery cells and packs. By using advanced modelling and machine learning techniques, combined with high-resolution charcaterisation, the project DigiCell seeks to make battery manufacturing processes more efficient, reliable, and sustainable.

In this context, the team from University of Rome Tre (RM3) is responsible for developing and implementing a nanomechanical testing system to assess the properties of battery materials, apply high-speed nanoindentation mapping protocols, and develop advanced data analysis algorithms. This work includes evaluating nanomechanical changes to charge-discharge cycles and integrating nanomechanical data with electrochemical data into FEM models, in collaboration with other project partners.

Responsibilities

The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible for developing and implementing a test setup and the data analysis protocols for assessing the nano-mechanical properties in battery electrodes, as a function of their state of charge. The main tasks will consist of

  1. Developing an environmentally controlled high-speed nanoindentation protocols, basing on the already existing experience of the group
  2. Developing novel data analysis tools, using k-means-based clustering algorithms
  3. Evaluating nano-Mechanical Changes
Education

PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Experimental Physics, or a related field.
